Western Pennsylvania All Service Academies Ball at The Westin Convention Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

It was a great honor and a pleasure to be a part of the All Service Academies Ball for the second year!  The event, which was held on Friday, December 30, 2011, took place at the beautiful Westin Convention Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

This was the 13th year the ball has taken place, and each year, it is hosted by a different academy.  This year, the United States Coast Guard Academy had the privelege of hosting the event.

The festivities began with a beautiful rendition of “God Bless America”, which was sung by Ms. Claudia Banack.   All of the Cadets and Midshipmen, along with their escorts, then entered the ballroom for the Grand March.  Introductions were graciously made by this year’s toastmaster, Mr. Mike Harvey, Channel 4 Action News meteorologist and anchor.

Following the Grand March, everyone stood for the Presentation of Colors and the singing of “The National Anthem”.

Throughout dinner, toasts were given by various Cadets and Midshipmen, as well as an inspirational message from CDR Richard Timme, U.S. Coast Guard Academy of 1991.

Open dancing followed, with the Cadets, Midshipmen, their dates and parents all enjoying themselves on the dance floor until midnight, when the last song of the evening, “Home”, by Michael Buble, was played.
